The Land Trust of West Haven (WHLT) is holding its first annual Photo Contest to celebrate and showcase the natural beauty of the city. It is seeking photos that feature nature and open spaces, as well as native plants and animals found in West Haven. The contest begins June 1 and photos can be submitted until July 15 through the online portal. It is free to participate and open to the public. Local amateur photographers and children are encouraged to enter.

“We are so excited to see what we hope will be some really fantastic and creative photographs that show just how beautiful the natural open spaces—and the wildlife and native plants in them—are in West Haven,” said Renny Loisel, President of WHLT. “There’s precious little open space in our city, so it’s important to celebrate what we have and showcase its value. This photo contest is one way to do that.”

Details, official rules, and entry form can be found here: bit.ly/whlandtrustphotocontest

The winning photographs will be featured on the WHLT website, social media, and a fundraiser calendar for 2023. While there is no cash prize, the photographers’ names will be included in the calendar with their photos and each will receive two calendars as a memento of their achievement.

A panel of WHLT judges will review submissions in July 2022 and choose the best six photos to be in the calendar. From the remaining photos, it will select an additional 20 of the best photos to be posted on the WHLT Facebook page. The public will “vote” for the remaining six winners. Those with the most “likes” and “shares” at 9:00 P.M. EST on September 2, 2022, will be included in the calendar. Winners will be announced on or before September 6, 2022, on the Land Trust’s FaceBook page
